While modern education will continue to grow and develop in many new and exciting ways, its' foundation is born of mankind's first and greatest teacher; the Earth. By reestablishing a close relationship to the Earth, teachers, parents, and children will find that they have a basic structure worthy of being built upon. Without such a foundation however, even the greatest of lessons will lack the very elements that makes the pursuit of knowledge a noble quest.
The primary objective of our school programs is to help students and teachers reestablish a meaningful relationship with the Earth so they can:
* Find deeper meaning in, and make personal connections to their studies
-
* Discover what nature has to offer via wilderness living and awareness skills and more importantly, what they have to offer nature
-
-
* Build caring and enthusiastic classroom communities
-
-
* Get excited about and aware of alternatives to television and video games

Program Options:
The Caretaker's Mind: This program is ideal for the grade level studying our country's first inhabitants: the Native Americans. "The Caretaker's Mind" interweaves a traditional Thanksgiving Address, Hero Stories, a Wilderness Living and Primitive Technology Museum, along with a hands-on Craft and Skills Workshop. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to ask the questions about primitive cultures that their text books don't answer, and they will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Caretaker of the Earth.
Fiction to Friction: Stuck in the wilderness, or on a deserted island? Left with nothing but the clothes on your back and the contents of your pockets? Sound familiar? It should, as there are literally hundreds of novels and movies that leave the audience asking, "Could I survive?" Let us take you and your students deeper into the question as we explore the basics of wilderness survival. Finding and creating shelter, water, fire, and food, are all tackled in this thrilling , hands-on adventure. Throughout the program, we reenact scenes from your class's favorite novels and see if what they've read would really work. This is the perfect introduction or culminating activity to your literary study and has countless connections to your writing, social studies, and science curriculum.
Primitive Technology in the 21stCentury: Spice up any science or history class by traveling back in time and rediscovering the technologies that sustained life for thousands of years. This program allows students to use replicas of primitive tools in order to discover the exciting world of experimental archeology. Along with demonstrating the modern principles of scientific method, it challenges students and teachers alike to take their studies a step beyond textbooks and lectures.
