Dear Friends:
As an Elementary and Special Educator for nearly ten years, I was continually frustrated by the myriad of problems that plagued many of my students. I saw everything from hyperactivity issues to eating disorders, mild test anxieties to severe depressions. On Monday mornings I would ask my students how their weekend was and at best, I would hear a lethargic description of a video game that they had beaten. The best years of their lives were being spent in a "virtual" existence and they were already acting like little adults, tired and frustrated with the world. Something had to change.
At a loss for answers, I began to take them on short walks in the woods that adjoined the school grounds. It was there that I witnessed childhood return to their young bodies. For the first time, I saw energy levels soar and curiosities bloom like nothing I had ever observed before. I noticed that they became softer and gentler towards themselves, one another, and even their surroundings. The more we went to the woods, the better they were able to make connections between what we studied in class and their own lives. They begged for more and it was then that I realized what a powerful tool I had at my disposal.
And so, I began to study nature as well as cultures that lived close to nature in order to find answers to the many questions that I had. The insights that I have gained in doing so have inspired me to create the Four Feathers Wilderness Programs. Today, my wife Lynn and I use ancient, time-proven mentoring techniques in combination with modern science's understanding of how people learn in order to help individuals discover their unique gifts and talents while guiding them to recognize their greater role as caretakers of the earth.
Bringing people to life, helping them recognize their special gifts and talents, and discovering how those gifts and talents fit into the world - that’s what Four Feathers Wilderness Programs are all about!
We hope to hear from you.
In service of future generations,
Michael Trotta
